Programs & Camps

PlayThrive applies the same project-based, SEL approach for the on-campus program and all of our seasonal camps. Our programs effectively teach students the appropriate Hanban YCT Mandarin levels for their grade level.


On Campus Program (Orion Campus)

  • Project-based learning units of 1-3 weeks
  • Low teacher-student ratio (1:9 for TK/Kindergarten class, 1:12 for 1~2 grades, 1:15 for 3~5 grades)
  • Assistance Mandarin homework
  • Hours: after school to 6pm
  • Open on all RCSD school days
  • Visit our Teachers page to read about all our experienced and highly qualified on-campus educators

Enrichment Program

  • Choice Activities: Music, art, sports, stories, maker lab, clay making, kung-fu, math & games
  • Optional Activities: Abacus, Lion Dance, Chinese dance can be available

PlayThrive Camps Introduction

Come to see friends, meet new schoolmates, make new friends, and continue your child’s Mandarin education during Spring and Summer with the activities they will love! PlayThrive Mandarin Immersion camps where children will play and do projects while practicing Mandarin with the support of their teachers. These camps, each a week-long, will follow PlayThrive’s educational philosophy of providing PBL (Project-based Learning) with a student-centered approach.

February Camp (2/16-2/20): 《节气探险家:发现春天的第一信号》
Season Explorers: Discover the First Signs of Spring

Campers will explore the first signs of spring through hands-on activities, stories, and creative projects. They will create a “Spring Report” to share what they discover.

April Camp (4/6-4/10):《神龙研究所:从星空与故事认识中国龙》

Loong Research Lab: Discover the Chinese Dragon Through Stars and Stories

Campers will explore the Chinese Loong through astronomy, literature, and cultural symbols. They will learn how the Loong appears in the stars, stories, traditions, and designs, and create a final project to share their discoveries.

Summer Camps: A Journey of Fun and Learning

Don’t miss this summer packed with hands-on experiences, cultural discovery, and endless fun!

Week 1 (6/8-6/12) : 《广州城市探险:味道地图大挑战》
Guangzhou City Explorers: Discover a City with Your Senses
Campers will explore Guangzhou through food, traditions, landmarks, and hands-on activities. They will create a mini city guide and share what makes Guangzhou special.

Week 2 (6/15-6/18, 4 days):《古代发明实验室:复刻并改造一项古代科技》
Ancient Invention Lab: Rebuild and Improve Technology
Campers will become young engineers and explore how ancient inventions worked using simple tools and materials. They will rebuild and test an invention, improve their design, and finish the week with an Ancient Tech Museum Showcase.

Week 3 (6/22-6/26):《桥梁工程师挑战:建造能承重的十七孔桥》
Bridge Builders: Design a Strong Arch Bridge
Inspired by the 17-Arch Bridge, campers will explore arches and bridge design, build their own model bridge, and test its strength. They will also add traditional roof-beast elements and present their final designs.

Week 4 (6/29-7/2, 4 days):《水墨实验室:创作你的国画作品集》
Ink Studio: Create Your Own Ink Painting Portfolio
Campers will explore Chinese ink painting through brushwork, ink tones, and creative techniques like washes and splashes. They will create a set of ink artworks (bamboo, birds, flowers, or landscapes) and finish the week with a Mini Ink Art Exhibition to showcase their work.

Week 5 (7/6-7/10):《迷你园林设计师:设计并搭建你的中式园林》
Mini Garden Designers: Build Your Own Chinese Garden
Campers will explore key elements of Chinese garden design—rocks, water, plants, and pathways—and learn how gardens create balance and surprise. They will design and build their own mini garden model and finish the week with a Garden Walk Showcase to share their creations.

Week 6 (7/13-7/17):《味觉侦探:用一张菜单认识中国》
Flavor Detectives: Discover China Through a Menu
Campers will explore flavors from different regions of China and learn what makes each place taste unique. They will design their own “Taste of China” menu and end the week with a Mini Food Market Showcase to share their creations.

Week 7 (7/20-7/24):《瓷器工坊:设计一件“好用又好看”的器物》
Porcelain Makers – Sculpting Chinese Ceramics
Campers become young ceramic designers—exploring classic shapes and patterns of Chinese porcelain, then sculpting their own clay creations for a mini exhibition!

Week 8 (7/27-7/31):《奶茶点心实验室:打造你的饮品品牌与招牌套餐》
Boba Lab: Create a Signature Drink and Snack Combo
Campers will create their own boba drinks and snack combos—testing recipes, designing menus, and running a mini drink shop showcase!

Week 9 (8/3-8/7):《山海经怪兽研究所:创造一只新异兽》
Mythical Creature Workshop (Inspired by Shan Hai Jing)
Campers will explore mythical creatures from Shan Hai Jing and design their own original beast through art and hands-on making. The week ends with a mini Beast Gallery Showcase.
